Testing Locations |

There are a number of places that offer HIV testing. When you take a test for HIV, the test will show whether HIV antibodies are present in your system. If they are, then your test will come back positive. If not, then the test will come back negative. A positive test means that you have been infected with the HIV virus. It does not mean you have AIDS. AIDS is a completely different diagnosis. You have AIDS when your T-cell count is below 200. It does mean, however, that the virus that causes AIDS can be found in your blood stream. There are two types of HIV testing: OraSure and OraQuick. The OraSure test is a swab of the gum. Results usually take a week. OraQuick is a gum swab plus a finger prick. The results take 20 minutes. Turning Point offers both OraSure and OraQuick testing. Call 612-520-4004 for more information about testing times and dates. AIDS testing is now available at Turning Point in North Minneapolis in collaboration with the North Memorial /University Family Physicians Clinic. This new method of testing yields HIV/AIDS results in 20 minutes or less. The test is conducted confidentially and at no cost for members of the community. For more information about OraQuick testing and other STD tests, contact Turning Point at (612) 520-4004. For a complete list of our services, see the Programs section of this website.
