Types of support and groups
Types of Counseling:
Services and Support, Individual Counseling, Case Management and Group Counseling.
Chemical Health:
Meets weekly to prepare clients to deal with substance use and abuse by having the knowledge regarding the effects of chemical substance use as it relates to self, family and community. The group is led by Chemical Dependency counselors. Presents facts about chemical substance use and its physical effects on the body. Also covers pharmacological make up of crack-cocaine and alcohol, non-prescription drugs and nicotine.
Co-dependency:
Contains a combination of lectures and discussions, with topics including healthy relationships and insight into co-dependency characteristics. The goal is to empower clients to develop healthy, supportive relationships that will help them maintain their sobriety and to understand co-dependency characteristics and how these characteristics trigger chemical substance use or abuse.
Community Meetings:
Allow the Client Services Representative to obtain input on recreation/leisure time, grievances and client-specific issues. This information is then used to better serve the client. The meetings also help develop a strong sense of community amongst the clients, which helps them in their struggle toward recovery.
Family Concerns Group:
Educates family and others concerned with the effects of chemical substances on the client and themselves. Helps educate those who are involved with someone who is chemically dependent.
Educational/Employment Development:
A four-week program to identify educational and literacy requirements of individuals and to assist clients in charting a path to employment and economic self-sufficiency.
Acupuncture:
Conducted twice weekly with emphasis on eliminating anxiety and stress.
Therapeutic Recreation:
Weekly activities give the clients an opportunity to participate and learn to plan recreational activities without the use of mood-altering chemicals.
Developing Partnerships with Other Agencies to Provide Better Service:
To provide better service to Turning Point clients, the Men's Residential Primary Treatment Program develops collaborative relationships with other agencies.
Minnesota Rehabilitative Services:
Through collaboration with the State of Minnesota Rehabilitation Services, the employment and education specialist at Turning Point helps men and women involved in the program obtain jobs. Rehabilitative Services sets aside a number of slots for program participants to ensure they get help with searching for meaningful employment.
Twelve-Step Process:
Turning Point uses the 12-Step method in chemical dependency treatment because this method is spiritually based and effective.
Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous:
This weekly group will offer fellowship and support for clients using the AA Twelve Step philosophy. It also focuses on understanding and personalizing the AA Twelve Steps to each individual's everyday life in their efforts toward sobriety.
HIV/AIDS Testing:
Confidential HIV/AIDS testing is offered in-house through a collaborative effort between Turning Point and North Memorial. Through this collaborative effort, community members and clients will benefit from a new, state-of-the-art form of HIV/AIDS testing known as Rapid Testing, which takes only 20 minutes to yield results. The test has a 99.9 percent accuracy rate. A certified OraQuick technician from North Memorial reviews test results and reports them to the participant. |
