How to put on a Condom
*Warning - Contains Sexual Content

If you should decide to have sex, remember to use a LATEX condom. Use a new LATEX condom each time you have sex. Never re-use a condom.

  1. Do this first:
    • Check the expiration date of the condom
    • Never re-use a condom
    • Don't use condoms that are brittle, yellow, or sticky
  2. Handle the condom carefully. Avoid damaging with fingernails, teeth or other sharp objects. If the condom is damaged, discard immediately.
  3. Put the condom on when the penis is hard and erect and before you make any genital contact with your partner.
  4. Hold the end of the condom, pinching gently to create extra room to collect semen at the tip, and so that air is not trapped, then roll the condom all the way down the erect, hard penis. If you have an extra-large penis, and the condom does not go all the way to the base of your penis, don't use it. Remember, you must completely cover your entire penis.
  5. Make sure you get the condom all the way down to the base of the penis.
  6. If the condom is not already lubricated, make sure you use adequate lubrication during sex. Use lubrication on the outside only and use a water-based lubricant. Never use: Vaseline, petroleum jelly, shortening, baby oil, mineral oil, massage oils or body lotions when using a latex condom. Using these lubricants may cause the condom to break.
  7. When removing the condom, hold it firmly at the base of the penis and withdraw while the penis is still erect. This prevents slipping. Discard immediately.

Use control. Practice abstinence. It is the only sure way to prevent sexual transmission of HIV.
