HIV and AIDS Key Facts.

  1. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS

  4. HIV is not spread through everyday casual contact
  5. People cannot get HIV when they give blood

How HIV is spread:

  1. By having vaginal, anal or oral sex with an infected person
  2. By sharing needles or syringes with an infected person
  3. From an infected mother to her baby during pregnancy, birth or breast-feeding

Body fluids of an infected person that spread HIV:

  1. Semen
  2. Vaginal fluids
  3. Blood
  4. Breast milk

Stopping the spread of HIV:

  1. If people have sex, using latex condoms the right way every time greatly reduces the risk of HIV infection and STDs.
